Wind chill calculator

Work out the wind chill from the air temperature and wind speed, in °C or °F.

About this calculator

Enter the air temperature and the wind speed. The calculator uses the US National Weather Service formula to show what temperature the wind makes it feel like on bare skin, and the frostbite risk.

It applies to temperatures at or below 10 °C (50 °F) and winds above about 5 km/h (3 mph).

Measurements and terms explained

Wind chill
The 'feels like' temperature once wind removes heat from skin.
Air temperature
The actual temperature measured in the shade.
Wind speed
The speed of the wind at about head height.

Common questions

Does wind chill change the real temperature?

No. It only describes how fast exposed skin loses heat. Objects do not get colder than the air.

When does frostbite risk rise?

Below about -28 °C (-18 °F) wind chill, exposed skin can freeze in 30 minutes or less.
